Marie Claire is one of my favorite magazines. i subscribe to it and it gets delivered to my apartment in New York. This month had a special @work issue and it was truly enlightening. i read it multi-tasking on the spin bike at the gym! I’m inspired and really realized i have to recharge my batteries this summer. i can’t feel guilty about it. i need to do it. i deserve it. This time i believe it when i say it! Thank you Marie Claire.

Personal indulgence. Chef Owner Hasty Torres of Madame Chocolat Beverly Hills (my bestie) was commissioned by Domaine Carneros, a Napa Valley, California winery owned by Taittinger to create a milk chocolate truffle with their sparkling wine. Dusted with a little edible gold glitter to resemble the bubbles rising up in the glass is so clever. This was a special Mother’s Day 2012 edition and it is truly haute and happy!

The reason i was staying in LA but then headed back to NY and back in LA again! NBA Playoffs. Los Angeles is fortunate to have 2 basketball teams and the Clippers are stepping up and finally made the post season. i was rooting for Memphis though (another best buddy), but the Clippers won the best of 7 series in the end. It’s great for the city of Los Angeles. Happy for the red headed step child team and the games were crazy loud, but I’m a Laker fan since childhood. So let’s just leave it at that. If you’re wondering…nope, did not wear the free red Clippers t-shirt!

This week in Los Angeles was a reminder of why i call this city my home. i was able to sit at my desk and work out of my office everyday, see some of my closest friends and begin to settle in to a new house. Moving in and unpacking boxes is a loaded experience for me. Not only do you have to sort out what to keep and not to keep but a floodgate of memories rushes in. A black halter top reminded me of a party at USC when i was 19 years old. More than a few vintage brown leather jackets and bellbottom flares bring flashbacks of my 70’s fashion obsession at one point in my life. Sometimes clothes can remind you of how far you’ve come. So far, i’m content with who i am today. That feels good.

Out with the old and in with the new! This Zara basic sandal garnered many compliments all over LA! It matches my YSL Cabas Chyc bag in bluette. For $50 this sandal is a must. i bought it in 3 colors and the girls from my office bought the all black pair on my recommendation. Instant classic.

The Pantages in Hollywood serves as a reminder of Broadway in New York…i love musicals. i waited for my car at valet across the street in front of Delphine restaurant at the W Hollywood. The elusive taxi cab made me do a double take! For a second, i wished i was back in New York 🙂

The view and gardens is reason enough to go to the Getty, but the current Herb Ritts: L.A. Style exhibit is worth the time to pause over beautiful photographs of celebrities, haute fashion and ponder the price of fame.

It’s been a busy week in New York. There were a few days when i didn’t even leave my apartment and worked through the day and night. But there were good times out like a business dinner at Sons of Essex in LES.

A beautiful afternoon at Jacques Torres Chocolate in SoHo. This is the flagship chocolate factory where Chef Jacques Torres actually works. It still impresses me that he can stop our conversation mid-sentence so he can hand a chocolate spoon to a giddy toddler!

While i was downtown for the day, i walked over to Broadway in SoHo and had to make a stop at Topshop. Great place to find inspiration to put together outfits even if you don’t buy anything. They merchandise well and honestly their mannequins are always styled to the nines! I snuck in a quick pix!

Unreal lobster pot pie. Sons of Essex also gives you pickles!

The last couple weeks were spent passing through various airports. Impromptu trips are fine with me since i managed to stay a couple weeks straight in New York this month. At first, i was liking the fact that i was in one place for over 10 days but then i was getting cabin fever and ultimately was homesick for LA.  Even though it was basically an extended weekend complete with heavy rain on Sunday and there was definitely business getting done, i was able to touch home base and had a great dinner with one of my best girl friends at Waterloo & City.  i have no problem driving out of my way for great food. We shared a bottle of rosé wine, chicken liver and foie gras mousse, gnocchi with lamb cheek ragu (ok, we need to stop there– trust me, the food is delicious!) She surprised me with a basket of flowers to mark my “homecoming.” Beyond thoughtful.

[ Gold. Even for shoes. Especially for shoes. ]

Back in New York this week. It’s great to be back from LA and better yet, i brought back some gold Sperry Top-Sider boat shoes with me! Stopped in to the mall at Century City and stepped out of my gold Chanel heels into a pair of these comfy shoes. It’s definitely replacing my gold Toms! Keeping with the gold theme, Saks Beverly Hills came through on the gold Chanel nail polish. Can’t wait to see how it looks on a manicure.  To keep things decadent, my favorite dish this week was toro tartare and caviar from a new sushi spot in Greenwich Village called Neta. It was bliss. Thank goodness it was friends and family opening night!

Looking back, February 2012 was all about travel. Back and forth between New York and Los Angeles with Orlando and Virginia/Washington DC making it on the itinerary as well. This year being a leap year, the extra day was very much needed.

I’m always impressed by the Waldorf Astoria in Orlando. It’s truly my “home” there. My trip to Maryland was all about friendship. You have to make time to catch up in person. Brunch at Mrs. K’s restaurant in Silver Spring, Maryland was not only memorable and impressive but also delicious. It’s definitely a great experience when you visit the greater Washington DC area. Getting through all this travel without worrying about your nails is haute happiness. My shellac manicure in dark gray was my trusty sidekick in a chic color that never let me down!

One of the most memorable meals in New York so far was Sunday brunch at Dovetail. It’s great to have a restaurant of this caliber walking distance from my apartment. My friend Bach raves about this spot so i had to go.  The next day i was back in Los Angeles for the week. The sunny days over 75 degrees was just what i needed. It’s always great to spend time at the office on Sunset Boulevard. i even went to see a movie at AMC in Century City after work on a whim with one of my best friends. Yes, that’s the mall in Crazy Stupid Love! Moviegoing is such a part of LA life…it’s like what musicals are to New York.

The new year came in quick! It’s 2012 and it’s time to live up to the resolutions. My most important one is:

be happy

This is all about the beauty of Instagram and to celebrate the new year and the chilly winter in New York…the theme is drinks.

Three To Live By

The end of a year allows us to look back and reflect on how we spent the last 365 days. Christmas 2011 has come and gone and i was happy to celebrate with my family, go to the church i grew up in and see some of my closest friends.

My favorite number is 3 and in life, it’s usually the rule for me.  “Three to live by” is my commitment to share three things during the week that made me “happy.”

i resolve that there will always be one “haute” feature!
