Oscars 2012 Fashion Sizzled: White Hot and Burnt Orange

Loved The Oscars 2012 red carpet arrivals (see Yahoo! gallery for more.) I’m usually an Angelina Jolie loyalists and she did look fabulous (see here), but this year it was the color of the dresses that caught my eye!

The standouts were definitely white hot!  My favorite vision in white has to be Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford. It was an exquisite ensemble fit for a bonafide Hollywood actress.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford: Regal Glamour

Rooney Mara in Givenchy: Structured Architecture

Milla Jovovich in Elie Saab: Old Hollywood Glamour

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad: Sexy Silhouette

Shailene Woodley in Valentino Couture: Elegant & Understated

Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton: Simply Beautiful

My choice for best dressed is one in full color! I adore Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton. She looks beautiful in the burnt orange color. The cameras pick it up as red but you can tell it’s not that simple…the color is more complex. The dress fits her perfectly and the simple and stunning necklace as well as the smart little bow on her waist are spot on accents.  I really think this look just captures the essence of 2012 and the fact that Michelle Williams is really coming into her own as an actress– making the move from a young ingenue to a much celebrated Hollywood leading lady.

This is a very sophisticated, smart and polished Oscar look. It’s not over the top. It is just right…bright and modern.  It is haute & happy.

Love these looks from the 2012 Indie Spirit Awards

Love jumpuits! Would wear to girl's night out. Kate Beckinsale looks sexy and chic.

I was on a plane heading back to Los Angeles from Orlando while the 2012 Independent Film Spirit Awards were being hosted in sunny Santa Monica– a Southern California beach city that perfectly captures the vibe of the event.

This morning i chose my favorite looks from Yahoo’s own best dressed gallery.  I would wear all of these looks!

Zoe Saldana always stuns on the carpet! Love this dress for special events.

This awards ceremony carpet is not for ball gowns and floor length anything!  The fashion is more approachable and can be worn for a night out on the town. So far I have seen The Descendants in the theatre and now The Artist, 50/50 and Margin Call (knew i should have stopped in to Film Society at Lincoln Center when it was showing!) are on my must watch movie list.

Love the shoes with this dress. Perfect for a formal family affair. So pretty. Elizabeth Olsen glows.

Blazer! i would wear this look day to night because i have before! Paz Vega owns this look.

Los Angeles to me means maxi dresses. Love this one on Olivia Wilde.

Magnolia Bakery NYC’s Banana Pudding

One of the first things i fell in love with when visiting New York City in the past was Magnolia Bakery. Now that i live in NY, it’s not often that i get to stop in anymore even though there seems to be one not too far from wherever i am! One of my clients was visiting this month and he has a major sweet tooth so while we waited for takeout at Rockefeller Center, we ran around the corner to the Magnolia Bakery on 49th & 6th.

For a first timer, it’s really tough to make a decision, but for me it’s really easy. Banana pudding. That is all.

The best thing about Magnolia Bakery’s banana pudding is you can make it at home and it really does taste like the real thing! [ recipe here.] Don’t skimp on the brand names. Definitely get Nilla wafers — there’s cute mini ones and i do go for the reduced fat Nillas. i try to cut down on sugar as much as i can so the sugar free/low calorie Jell-o instant vanilla pudding is my choice. The vanilla pudding allows the banana flavor to come from the bananas themselves and not from the pudding so stick to vanilla even though it might be tempting to go for banana flavored pudding in the grocery aisle.

My lesson learned during my last go at home was not to over whip the whipped cream…i do know now that i like it softer and not as thick.

Happy Sunday everyone. Hope you try this at home and serve it to your loved ones. What i found is it actually tastes better the next day so maybe you can bring it to work and impress everyone with your kitchen skills or if you have President’s Day off then invite friends over and stay in!

Chanel “Gold Fingers”

It’s been awhile since i posted! The back and forth between NY and LA has been interesting and my focus has been on work, family and friends. There just isn’t enough time in the day.  On Saturday, i made a stop into Saks Beverly Hills to visit the cosmetics counter at 10am.  Needed time for myself before i took a long drive to see my best friend from high school and her new baby.  Going to the cosmetics counter for me is like a walk on the beach! It’s my zen.

i wasn’t really on a mission…knew i needed to look into some liquid foundations and i wanted to see nail polish colors. Right now I’m loyal to UV gel manicures with Orly Gel FX.  I’m pretty focused with my nail colors– black, pink linen and sometimes dark gray. i wanted to put a gold in the mix.

My stop at the Chanel counter put me on the pre-order list for their Vegas collection! Can’t wait for the Gold Fingers nail colour!
